ReviewReviewReviewReviewReviewMultiply - Java Uploader not working in Firefox?Oct 19, '08 10:56 AM
for everyone
Category:Other
You love Mozilla Firefox. You browse Multiply with Mozilla Firefox...Everything seems to be in order...

One day you are trying to share some of your wonderful photos with your friends and family then later you found out that the java uploader in Multiply says the loading failed...Frustrating right?

At first I thought it was some compatibility issue between Java and Firefox 3.0x...Then after a very long time, I found out that one of the root cause with this issue is due to the Google toolbar version(3.1.xxxx)

To solve this problem...simply
1) click Tools --> Options
2) go to Security tab
3) click the Exception button
4) In "Address of Web Site" type in your own multiply url : eg mine is wingcom.multiply.com or to be general, just put in www.multiply.com
5) Click allow and make sure your multiply url appear in the lower box with the status "Allow"
6) Try loading the java uploader again, it should work nicely now
7) Enjoy uploading again, using Firefox 3.0

* I think Firefox 2.0 is not having such problem...

Let me know if you have trouble with this guide :-)

ReviewReviewReviewReviewFor Mathematics FrankensteinApr 24, '08 11:49 PM

You have been setting mathematics equation using Microsoft Word 2003.

One day, when you step into your cubicle, switch on your PC, you find that the Microsoft Word that you are familiar with had gone through a lot of changes.

Instantly, you pick up the phone and dial the infamous IT Hotline and usually the respond will be "Hello IT" in the first place, then you started to complain about everything or anything or just about nothing as if the world has turned upside down.

Be patient if you are complaining the whereabout of the Equation Editor where you have been using for years to construct mathematics equation in your thesis or research report etc using Microsoft Word 2003.

With the new version of Microsoft Word...namely Microsoft Word 2007, you can locate the Equation Edition by clicking Insert than at the far right corner there is an Equation button to serve your needs.

Sometimes, that Equation Editor button will be greyed off. In Microsoft term, greyed off means "tak boleh klik". Normally in this case it is due to the reason that you have opened a document that was created by the older version of Microsoft Word .e.g 2003, XP, 2002 etc.

The file that save with Microsoft Word 2007 will have the extension of .docx (4 characters) whereas the others will only have .doc (3 characters)

To enable back the Equation button,
1. Click the BIG round button on the top left hand corner
2. click save as and a window will popup for you to choose where you want to save
3. make sure the save as type is Word Document(*.docx)
4. then click on save
5. reopen the newly saved file and the Equation Editor will work as expected.

Hope this helps

side note : Do not delete your older version file first, use that as backup if anything goes wrong.

P.S. I still hate Maths :-)

ReviewReviewReviewReviewReviewCannot Show Hidden Files?Jan 8, '08 3:06 AM

Cannot Show Hidden Files? It might be the mischievous work of virus.

If you find that your PC is not able to view hidden files no matter how many times you click on the Show Hidden Files options, you may try the following steps.

  1. Install AVG, download it
  2. Run a Full SCAN and heal all the detected viruses
  3. Check your services, at the 2nd or 3rd entry, there should be one alphanumeric service, fire up REGEDIT and search for that string and delete all the matched result.
  4. Occasionally you need to grant ALL permission in order to delete the matched entry
  5. Since you are still not able to view hidden files, you need this ExplorerXP to help you to view the hidden files, download it
  6. Install ExplorerXP and start up the program, check through all the Drive and delete the file auto.exe and autorun.inf if seen.
  7. Restart PC into safe mode
  8. Fire up REGEDIT again and do the following

Go to the following registry key:
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL

DELETE the value CheckedValue in the right window. (Its type should be REG_SZ and data should be 2.) So after you delete this entry, try to hit F5 several times to ensure that this entry won't re-spawn by itself.

Now create a new DWORD value called CheckedValue (same as above, except that the type is REG_DWORD). Modify the value data to 1 (0x00000001).

  9. Restart PC and you should be able to hide/unhide hidden files.

Open Regedit by issuing "regedit" in Start-->Run

find and delete the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger\Policies
(delete here means just highlight Policies and delete, not to delete the whole string/path)

if you can't manage to find "Policies" under the indicated path, which means this solution will not work for you :-), myself is a good example...I can't find "Policies"

Another work-around will be the following, please click on the below link
http://wingcom.multiply.com/journal/item/428

if you still can't get yourself sign-on, try using the windows messenger(not LIVE) that comes with windows, just go to Start-->Run then type msmsgs and login from there temporary. Try signing-in Windows LIVE messenger later

note: if you are in a company and can't sign-on successfully, it might be a reason that your administrator has already block msn port...in that case...try web messenger

some interesting find about event viewer

Event viewer logs actually consumes more of your server memories when it starts growing bigger and bigger.

so never ever assign a high KB number for the Maximum log size field.

Instead save and clear log files periodically as it is vital for system administrator to track and troubleshoot system activities.

When sysadmin find that their system is running low of memory, probably this might be another perspective to look into.

taurus will be more relief by now ;-)

*I wonder will this happen to our pc/laptop? I think it is unlikely to happen, well...when I reached home I will do a check...hehe

There is a feature within Windows that has you Press Ctrl+Alt+Del before logging in if you want it on but, what is it good for? What is it's purpose?

It's Primary function is to prevent un-intended logins. In a corporate environment your account is controlled by policy's. One part of these policy's determines how many failed login attempts you have to prevent hackers/crackers from constantly trying to guess your password. Of course accidents happen and people get them wrong, so the extra level of this key sequence prevents people from making an attempt without realising (such as leaning on the keyboard).
In some cases you might also find that after pressing the key sequence some company's display a warning/informational banner reminding you that it's a private computer and not to attempt to login unless you are authorised.

Kill the amount of RAM Firefox uses for it’s cache feature
Here’s how to fix it:
1. type “about:config” (no quotes) in the browser.
2. Find browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewer
2. set it’s value to “0″

Increase the Speed in Which Firefox loads pages
1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return.
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30.

This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″.

This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages faster now
More options for your about:config (you might have to create some of these entries by Right Click –> New– > Interger or String

network.dns.disableIPv6: set “false”
“content.notify.backoffcount”: set “5″
“plugin.expose_full_path”: set “true”.
“ui.submenuDelay”: set “0″ (zero)
Kill RAM usage to 10mb when FF is minimized
This little about:config hack will drop Firefox’s RAM usage down to 10 Mb when minimized

1. Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and then press Enter.
2. Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean.
3. In the box that pops up enter config.trim_on_minimize. Press Enter.
4. Now select True and then press Enter.
5. Restart Firefox.
Ok I hope this makes a few people’s browsing experience a bit better with Firefox and debunks a myth about their being a bug.

Please take note that HideIP Platinum will modify your proxy connection setting in your firefox whenever it renews a proxy IP from random site.

This will cause a connectivity problem to the internet if the next time you starts your firefox without starting HideIP. Well you might say "well, I can still go to the connection setting and point it back to direct connect to Internet or Auto detect proxy" but this is just not a permanent solution. The next time you re-start firefox, the connection setting will some how get back the previous proxy IP found by HideIP. It is very annoying.

So if in any event do you wish to stop using HideIP, please do remember to stop the software as well if not the proxy ip will still be there in the firefox's connection setting.

To stop HideIP Platinum, right click it's icon and then click Stop Hide IP, then restart firefox browser.

This article is only to whom that may concern :-)

Blog EntryA solution for Windows Msger Sign-in ProblemSep 11, '06 12:42 PM
for everyone

hinted by juv's friend

Sign-in problem is not permanent, try this only if you failed to sign-in your msger :-)

first, go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc, you should see a file named hosts

open the file with notepad and you should see something like below

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
#      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
#       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host

127.0.0.1       localhost

add these 2 lines below 127.0.0.1 localhost

65.54.239.80 messenger.hotmail.com
65.54.239.80 dp.msnmessenger.akadns.net

save the file and try to sign in and see

I personally think that the cause of this problem is because the DNS cannot get resolved...but not very sure

adding the 2 lines there will give msger a direct location on where to authenticate a username and password instead of jumping all around the world

once again, thank you juv for the hint

ReviewWindows Live Messenger Memory Leak IssueAug 2, '06 2:39 AM

Apparently after long hour of usage or just let WLM stays on "forever" it will starts crunching up your PC's memory.

You may sometimes experience a slow performance with your own PC and that is a good time for you to shut down your WLM and resign-in.

For those who knows PC well...you guys can just check out the Windows Task Manager and surprisingly msnmsgr.exe will be taking almost all your PC resources. Just terminate that process and the overall performance will be back to normal.

For now, let's wait for a fix for that bug.

PS. I kinda discover that IE is also having a memory leak issue when I just leave the browser stay on...anyone of you having that issue as well?

Just a note, moi version is 8.0.0792.00 with msgplus version 4.01.0.240

Blog EntryGenuine?!May 9, '06 8:43 PM

Ported from some website

A very easy way suggest that three files are installed Windows XP System Folder:

\WINDOWS\system32\WgaLogon.dll
\WINDOWS\system32\WgaTray.exe
\WINDOWS\system32\LegitCheckControl.dll

The wgatray.exe process makes the check for genuine windows software. You can disable WGA by removing the execute bit on WgaLogon.dll. That way, winlogon can't call it as a notification package at boot, and since WgaLogon is responsible for running and maintaining WgaTray.exe, no more tray popups either.

To change the execute bit of WgaLogon.dll, first turn off Simple File Sharing. Now right click the file in Windows Explorer and open the Security Tab. Hit the Advanced button, uncheck the Inherit box at the bottom, hit the Copy button, then hit OK. Go through each listed user/group and remove the "Read & Execute" permission for that file, leaving the "Read" permission as-is.

Hit OK to apply the permission changes and close the file properties dialog. Restart the machine. You can now turn "Use simple file sharing" back on, if you want.
